Rep. Chip Roy: Our Ballot Access Laws Should be Applied Equally to All Candidates

AUSTIN, Texas — U.S. Rep. Chip Roy (TX-21), issued the following statement on a Write of Mandamus with the Texas Supreme Court to ensure ballot access laws are equally applied to all candidates:

“This week, I joined with a number of my U.S. House colleagues to file a Writ of Mandamus with the Texas Supreme Court to require that our ballot access laws be applied equally to all candidates. While I think our policies should encourage ballot options for citizens, if any prospective candidate is denied a place on the ballot for failing to pay a timely fee, then all candidates who similarly fail to pay the fee should similarly be denied access. After months of opportunities to raise the issue in a timely way, Wendy Davis filed litigation at the 11th hour to remove the Green Party candidate from the ballot – and while it would not be my preference to seek Mandamus to remove candidates from the ballot, if the Court insists on removing the Green Party, then the rule should be equally applied to all candidates.”

Stand with Chip!
