I am pleased that the Senate voted today to confirm Bernie McNamee to be a Commissioner on the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). Bernie is a fellow Texan with an impressive resume. He has served as an advisor to numerous public officials in DC, Virginia, and Texas. Notably, he currently serves under Secretary Perry as the Executive Director of the Office of Policy at the Department of Energy, and he previously served as Deputy Counsel for Energy Policy. Bernie also served as Chief of Staff to Texas Attorney General Paxton, Deputy Policy Advisor and Counsel to former Governor George Allen, and as the Chief Deputy Attorney General of Virginia.
Bernie is a man of deep conviction and faith, who is committed to defending the Constitution and preserving and protecting our great Republic. He is an expert on energy issues, and will be an excellent Commissioner to FERC. He understands the value and the importance of ensuring that all Americans have access to abundant affordable energy to continue to improve the quality of their lives and advance American prosperity.
As a fellow graduate of the University of Virginia, I know Bernie will carry out his duties with the same appropriate skepticism of large government as the University’s founder, Mr. Jefferson. I offer my sincere appreciation and well wishes to Bernie and his wonderful family as he continues to serve our nation in such an important capacity.
